Whoops!

Apparently Who Wants To Be A Superhero was faked.  A reality show… about people wanting to be superheroes was faked?  No way!  It seems that they hire actors to play the people who want to be superheroes.  Not actual people who want to be superheroes as the show might make it seem.

Want to see a casting call?

We are looking for a young, hot, superhero for the second season of a popular elimination show on the Sci Fi Network called, “Who Wants to be a Superhero?” If we select you based on your photos and information, we will guide you through the audition process. You will receive a weekly stipend, live in our mansion and could also receive a cash prize.

Interest in comics, Sci Fi, and horror and action films is a big plus. You will also have great material for your reel if you are an actor interested in these genres. Please send a headshot (or close-up) and a full body shot along with your name, age, occupation and availability throughout April. Please include any LA Casting or Myspace.com links as well.

Thank You!

The big issue appears to be that people are being flown out just for the first episode… then never appearing on it again unless they are a hired actor:

Of course a lot of you have read blog posts or seen You Tube videos of people saying they were flown out to LA for a call back. These call backs are legit and they aren’t legit. They are legit in the sense that people were flown to LA but it was just so the show could have footage for the first episode. They needed random people being interviewed by Stan Lee.

Not all that shocking, but it sucks that an actual fan wasn’t able to make it onto the show.

As a big fan of season 1 and a cast member of season 2, and with no acting credits of any kind, I can say with 100% percent certanty that this is simply not true.

I’ve seen that casting call before, and it seems to me they were simply covering their bases; they simply didn’t know how many people would try out, and what calibre of contestant they might be able to cull from said auditions. They cannot bank on an unknown varable.

As it turns out, over 1000 people auditioned, and they were able to cast entirely from non-actors.

Yes, the first season was mostly actors, but that’s because the show was almost entirely unknown except to those who keep their ear to the ground for casting calls… ie, actors.
